    1. Excellent. The hardest thing to understand is the privilege so many of us were born into by the color of our very skin, or how difficult it is to be born into a life where your skin tone makes you a constant, untrusted target. DG gets it. Not everyone does (yet) but that enlightenment is expanding. It’s tragic that it takes death and unrest for us to evolve, but that is the human journey.

      1. You know Tom… it is SO presumptive of the WHITE man to somehow believe that the WHITE population is somehow still holding down black men. Who gave any white person the right to assume they have a better life than our fellow Americans… black, Hispanic, Asian, Indian… I’m at a loss when people simply say privilege. This is an agenda! This is some creative writing shit that for some reason some people have bought into. There are right and wrong things! Period. Life sucks, life isn’t fair, and men who believe they are “privileged” JUST because of their skin color… that, brother Tom, is where the problem lies. A WHITE American gonna save the black man. Here’s a little news flash… there is nothing as insulting to a black man as a bunch of WHITE people bending a knee, and then… and THEN carrying around a sign that says Black Lives Matter. Shame on the ‘privileged’ white man. JUST BECAUSE you are white, you are no better, or more ‘privileged’ than any AMERICAN MAN. Sounds to me like you BELIEVE you are. I’m exhausted. It’s incredible that you have swallowed this agenda-hook, line, and sinker. People need to get off their asses and come together because we care about each other. Everyone needs to quit pushing political agendas and the god damn scripts we spew at each other and take back some damn pride in being good, decent, independent thinking people.

        Then you probably still misunderstand the premise. Read DG’s definition again. It’s nails.

        Some people have co-opted it as such, yes. Some people who want to use POC to further their own ends and some people who want to use POC to further a racist agenda, too. Every cause, every lie, and every truth gets co-opted to an agenda. Let that go. There is still a race problem in America, despite agendas.

        And some creative writing shit to cover up the inequities.

        No pun intended at all, but it’s not all black and white like that. Stuff gets complex.

        Back to when? For a long time our pride in manifest destiny subjugated millions of black people and killed millions of Native Americans. Our pride kept women from voting. Our pride sent people who were different to the back of the bus, to another water fountain, into concentration camps. Our pride drops bombs on Muslim orphanages. I think we should stop trying to take back what didn’t work and start working forward to something more … uh oh, here’s that word … progressive.

        Yes. Break the conditioning. We are all one people. Here, north, south, across the Atlantic, across the Pacific, black, white, brown, red, Christian, Muslim, Atheist, male, female, straight, gay, and everything in-between. Let’s take pride in being human. In being evolved. In protecting this planet from our own greed, corruption, and negligence. Yes. Let’s listen. Let’s learn. Let’s grow. Going “back” or keeping the same ol’ prejudices?

        My ‘ignorance’ in understanding the “definition” of the term…

        Nope. I did retain that information from my college days… a social work major, criminal justice minor… whatever tho- just 20 years in the field.

        As for my “presumptuous… “
        I’m not assuming, I asked!
        This white woman has “POC” relatives… I had real live conversations with my cousins!

        Shit. Why didn’t I think of that. I’m just waiting for them days of oppression to come on back because I like being ‘prejudiced’ against my own family members!!!

        We ARE all one people! (You got that right!)

        I’m done, I give up. You win Tom. You get the “enlightened” crown.

        I have a funeral to attend and my ENTIRE family will grieve together and keep each other close, out of harms way. That’s what family does, my family anyway.
